Long Island Iced Tea
Five spirits and no tea. Proceed with respect.
Ingredients
- 15 ml Gin
- 15 ml Vodka
- 15 ml White rum
- 15 ml Tequila
- 15 ml Triple sec
- 25 ml Lemons
- 15 ml Sugar syrup
- top Cola
Method
Shake everything but the cola, strain over ice, top and stir once.

If you're missing something
- Triple sec → Cointreau or dry curaçao — the same category — Cointreau is the benchmark and worth the difference
- Sugar syrup → Agave syrup — slightly sweeter, so use a little less
- Sugar syrup → Honey — loosen with warm water first; adds its own flavour
Where it comes from
Two claims: Robert Butt, competing in a 1972 contest on Long Island, and an earlier prohibition-era drink from Long Island, Tennessee. Neither version contains tea.
