Old Fashioned
Spirit, sugar, bitters, ice. The original definition of the word cocktail.

- 10 ml Sugar syrup
- 3 dashes Angostura bitters
Method
Build in the glass, add a large cube and stir slowly for 30 seconds.

If you're missing something
- Bourbon → Rye whiskey — drier and spicier; a common and accepted swap in stirred drinks and sours
- Sugar syrup → Agave syrup — slightly sweeter, so use a little less
- Sugar syrup → Honey — loosen with warm water first; adds its own flavour
Where it comes from
This is the original meaning of the word cocktail: a definition printed in 1806 described it as spirits, sugar, water and bitters. As bartenders added more ingredients through the 1800s, drinkers who wanted the simple version began asking for it the old-fashioned way.
